I was attracted to these strong, graphic numerals salvaged from a country sports field in the Northern Rivers of NSW. There is an honest, simplicity to them. The look like they were done by an untrained eye and yet there is a careful hand at work. My background as a show card and ticket writer drew me to these signs. They are not arranged in any particular order, rather I worked with each panel and it’s slight irregularity to compose a grid which sat well to my eye.

I was also attracted to the colour and patina of the Masonite panels, the wear and tear and chips and damage which only add to the richness of the piece and contrast with the black numbers.
